Donsol, a town sustained by whale shark tourism

At the end of October, 2017, whale sharks have the chance to gain more protection at the CMS conference in Manila, Philippines.
As the host of this year’s Conference of the Parties (COP12) to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), the Philippines has proposed that whale sharks receive full protection wherever they are found. Governments have the opportunity to work together at CoP12 to prioritize the management of this shark species before it is too late. Migratory species like whale sharks can be of huge value to certain communities, in Donsol, Philippines, whale sharks have truly changed the lives of the locals.
